What it involves

Taking Kids in Need of Defense UK cases means making a commitment to children and young people who would not otherwise be able to access legal representation.

Once your firm has agreed to partner with us you will be assigned a Kids in Need of Defense UK supervising lawyer. Our expert immigration lawyers provide exclusive support to our pro bono partners, which means that they have the time to guide your lawyers for the duration of a case.

Training sessions are held at your office so that all your lawyers who want to get involved, can.

Once a lawyer is trained, s/he’s ready to take on a case. Pro bono lawyers work in pairs to make sure there’s always someone available.

Your Kids in Need of Defense UK supervising lawyer will attend client appointments with your pro bono lawyers until they’re ready to go it alone.

Pro bono lawyers are also provided with template documents and legal resources to help them through the process.

  • Why get involved?

    Why get involved?

We support pro bono lawyers so that they can take on a case from start to finish. That means that our pro bono lawyers help a child, young person or their parent prepare and submit an application for citizenship or permission to reside in the UK.

  • Why we do it

    Why we do it

Research estimates that there are over 120,000 undocumented children in the UK. Some of them are British but unable to prove it, many of them have a legal entitlement to British citizenship; even more would suffer human rights violations if they had to leave the UK.

  • How we do it

    How we do it

Kids in Need of Defense UK partners with law firms and businesses. Their lawyers can then provide free legal representation to children and young people. We call them our pro bono lawyers because they give their time for the public good; not profit.
