To assess your needs we ask you to complete our referral form and provide us with as much detail as you are able to. We need this information to see whether your case is suitable for our service or whether there might be a different option for you.

Your personal information can be shared with any of the Kids in Need of Defense UK hubs and with our pro bono partners. You must read through our privacy policy to make sure you understand how your information will be used.

What happens after I have made a referral?

The information you provide will be sent to Central England Law Centre. We will then check which of our hubs should consider your case. Any information you have given us will then be sent to the supervising lawyer at one of our hubs. They will contact you to confirm whether or not Kids in Need of Defense UK can help you.

How long will I have to wait before my case is allocated to a pro bono lawyer?

The current waiting list is around three to six months, depending on the urgency of your case.

After you fill in the referral form, someone from KIND should contact you within two weeks to assess your situation and collect any additional details which may be required. They will also be able to tell you if your situation will be better handled by another organisation or a private solicitor. One of our other projects, Path to Papers, has more information on finding a lawyer.

If you are thinking about instructing a private lawyer because you urgently need legal representation, we suggest you watch this video by Praxis, a partner organisation of KIND, and also read the information on the Path to Papers website.
