Care and human rights – submission to UN OHCHR

18 April 2024

KIND UK has coordinated a submission from the Refugee and Migrant Children’s Consortium to the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) study of care and human rights.

“The national government’s approach towards refugee and migrant children has increasingly moved away from child protection and compliance with the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child”

The UN’s study aims to inform the expert workshop and High Commissioner’s report to the Human Rights Council, pursuant to resolution 54/6 (the centrality of care and support from a human rights perspective, October 2023).

The Refugee and Migrant Children’s Consortium is a coalition of more than 90 charities and experts in the UK. Our evidence for this study focuses on concerns relating to refugee and migrant children who are or should be in care in the UK and failure to fulfil rights set out in British and international law, including the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
